Obituary for Marvin Berkowitz

Marvin Berkowitz, 85, 54 year resident of the Town of Poughkeepsie, passed away at home on Friday, May 27, 2011. He was born on October 26, 1925 in New York City, the son of Isadore & Fannie Berkowitz, and he was the younger of two siblings, being predeceased by his sister Minnie. He is survived by his wife Toby nee Flambaum. Toby and Marvin were married on September 3, 1950 in the Bronx, N.Y. Marvin served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps during WW II, and, after his honorable discharge, he attended City College of NY, where he studied business administration. After college, Marvin started his own business, Craig Dental Lab, which he relocated to Poughkeepsie in 1957. He retired in 1986. A member of Temple Beth-El in Poughkeepsie, Marvin served on the Temple’s Ritual Committee. He was also a member of the Poughkeepsie Rotary and Kiwanis Clubs, and was an occasional guest speaker at Dutchess Community College, where he lectured on best practices for running a small business. Marvin enjoyed traveling, tennis, golf, and working around the house, and he loved opera and classical music. He also loved to take long drives in cars and on motorcycles as both cars and motorcycles were a passion for himIn addition to his wife, Marvin is survived by his two sons and their wives: Jeff Berkowitz & Merri Klar of Woodbury, Connecticut, and Michael & Anne Berkowitz of Fresno, California, three grandchildren: MaXx, Jake and Daniel, his niece Linda and nephew Steven and other loving family and friends. Services are 11:00 AM on Monday, May 30 at Temple Beth-El, 118 South Grand Ave., Poughkeepsie, N.Y. 12603. Rabbi Neal Loevinger will officiate. Burial will follow at the family plot in Temple Beth-El Cemetery, Rt. 44, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. Shiva will be held May 30, 2:30-4:30 and 7;00-9:00 PM with minyan at 4:00M at the family home, 30 Fair Way, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. Funeral Arrangements are under the direction of Wm. G.
