Obituary for Wayne S. Watkins

Wayne S. Watkins, 94, of Poughkeepsie, NY, passed away on August 20, 2016 at Vassar Bros. Medical Center. He was born in Florence, N.Y. on March 21, 1922, the son of Fred N. & Elsie Walker Watkins. Following his service in the U.S. Army during W.W.II as a Surgical and Prosthetic Technician, he graduated from Clarkson University with a BS in Mechanical Engineering.
Wayne married Jean Cavanaugh on July 22, 1950 in the 1st Presbyterian Church in Poughkeepsie, NY. She predeceased him on May 13, 1991. He was a member of the Freedom Plains United Presbyterian Church in LaGrange, NY. He was employed from 1948-84 as a Mechanical Engineer for IBM in Poughkeepsie, NY and retired in 1984.
Wayne was a member of F. & A Mason Lodge of Poughkeepsie, NY, Poughkeepsie Chapter Royal Arch Masons, King Solomon's Council, Poughkeepsie Commandery, A Shriner, Life Member of B.P.O.E., and the Dutchess County Scottish Society. He also was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and the American Cancer Society as a driver for both of them. He had a lifelong love of Antique Cars and was the owner of a 1919 Ford Model T.
The family would like to extend their deep thanks to the Staff in the I.C.U of So. Circle 7 of Vassar Bros. Medical Center, the Doctors of The Premier Medical Group especially Dr. Elmi, Dr. Ashraf, Dr. Dean and Dr. Williams for doing their best and the Staff at the Pines of Poughkeepsie on the 4th and 5th floor.
Survivors include: son: David C. Watkins of Hyde Park, NY; daughter: Elaine L. Watkins of Poughkeepsie, NY; grandson: James(Jessica) Watkins and great-grandchildren: Chloe and Mason. There are several cousins that survive. Visitation will be on Friday, September 9, 2016, 6-8PM at the Wm. G. Miller & Son FH, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. A Masonic Service will take place at 7:30 PM in the Funeral Home. Services will be Saturday, September 10, 2016, at 2 PM at the Freedom Plains United Presbyterian Church, 1168 Rt. 55, LaGrangeville, NY 12540. Entombment will be private at a later date.
