Obituary for Dr. George A. Jackrel

It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of George Jackrel, 71, of Poughkeepsie, NY. George died on February 1st, 2017 at his home surrounded by his adoring family. George was born in Brooklyn, NY to loving parents Bertha and Max Jackrel. When George wasn’t giving his younger sister Robin noogies the two would often roam the streets of Brooklyn and share Chinese food and tea with much too much sugar. From a young age George enjoyed watching sports and playing stickball and basketball with friends in the parks of NYC. His love of sports was rivaled in December of 1971 when he married the love of his life, and best friend, Terry. Over the next 46 years, they had two children and grandchildren, shared many happy adventures and visited more than 40 countries on 6 continents. They were happily married until his passing. George practiced dentistry in Poughkeepsie for more than 40 years after graduating from The University at Buffalo, and NYU Dental School. He loved his work and his life. George and Terry were part of a crew of great friends who shared their passion for travel, tennis and golf. George enriched the lives of those near to him with his gregarious laugh, humble nature, witty humor, and his love of music. George was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife Terry, children Adam and David (Stephanie), grandchildren Alyanna and Wesley – who have both inherited his love of laughter and ice cream, and his sister Robin (Lance, Dana, Max). Funeral services will be held at Vassar Temple, 140 Hooker Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601, on Friday February 3rd, at 11 am. Burial will follow in the family plot in Beth-El Cemetery/Cedar Park, 735 Forest Ave., Paramus, NJ 07652. Arrangements are under the direction of Wm. G. Miller & Son FH, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. If you wish to send an online condolence please visit our website at www.wmgmillerfuneralhome.com
