We celebrate the life and mourn the loss of our loving wife, mother, and grandmother, Joan D. Zeleznik who passed away March 9, 2017. Joan was born March 3, 1938 to Emma and Alfred Robinson Sr. in Poughkeepsie.

In July 1962, Joan married the love of her life Joseph L. Zeleznik, who survives. Also surviving are her sons Joseph and his wife Sharon, and Michael and his fiancé Donna Mortensen; and her four grandchildren, Stephanie, Kathryn, James, and Hannah. In addition to her parents, Joan was predeceased by her sisters Evelyn Connors, Geraldine Evans, and Audrey Robinson and brothers Alfred Jr., Eugene, and Carlton Robinson. Her brothers Leonard and Ronald survive. Telephone, telegraph, tell Aunt Joan, she is survived by a great many beloved nieces and nephews.

Joan was a lifetime Dutchess County resident, growing up in Poughkeepsie and later residing in Pleasant Valley. She attended Poughkeepsie Schools, graduating from Poughkeepsie High School in 1956.

Joan enjoyed a great many activities including camping, bowling, knitting and crocheting, golf, playing cards, and spending time with family and friends. Most of all, she was a proud grandmother who loved caring for her grandchildren and attending their many activities. Joan particularly liked her annual visits to Pennsylvania’s Lancaster County and camping among the area’s Amish community as well as her week-long camping trips to Wilcox Park with her grandchildren.

Joan worked at Young Folks Shop after high school and after raising her sons was later employed by IBM, starting her career in the cafeteria and shifting to manufacturing in the Poughkeepsie facility, retiring in 1993.

The family wish to thank Joan’s childhood best friend, Patricia Miltenberger, for her love and support during Joan’s long goodbye.
