Obituary for Grace H. Coratti

Grace Helen Coratti, age 87 of Rhinebeck passed away at home on Saturday June 10, 2017, surrounded by her family. A longtime area resident, she was born in Brooklyn NY on July 18, 1929, the daughter of Philip James and Sadie Picciotto Guercio.
She was married in Poughkeepsie on November 20, 1949 in Mt Carmel Church to Anthony Charles Coratti who survives. They were married for 68 years. They met after Charlie saw her picture in the window of Arax photography shop and he convinced the owner to give him her name, the rest is history.
Grace moved from Brooklyn to Hyde Park when she was six. The fourth of eight children, the family lived on a farm with her cow Bossy. The children helped their mother, Sadie, every day milking cows and collecting eggs.
She was educated in Hyde Park Schools and was proud to have been in attendance when Franklin Delano Roosevelt dedicated her High School.
In 1985 her family moved to Rhinebeck where she resided for 32 years next to her extended family (The Compound). To everyone who knew her she was “Gracie,” a beautiful woman with a kind and generous heart. Her family was her greatest joy. Holidays, dinners especially Christmas Eve and Sunday BBQs, vacations in Wildwood, NJ and winters in Florida are well remembered. She especially loved to swim in the ocean in her tube. Nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family were also such an important part of her life.
Grace is survived by four children who she cherished, Patricia Platania (John) of Rhinebeck, Cynthia Lazarchik (Keith) of Rhinebeck, Joseph (Joanne) of Hyde Park, Philip (Jennifer) of Rhinebeck. Her grandchildren were also her pride and joy: Jade, Gia, Keith, Marissa, Lauren, Samantha, Cassidy, and Christian. She is also survived by 3 great grandchildren: Jack, Charli, and Beau.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Joseph, Benedetto, Frank, and John and her sisters Rose Germano and Marlene Guercio. She is survived by her sister Mrs. Clara Cobey of Pound Ridge, NY.
There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Good Shepherd Church on Thursday June 15, 2017 at 11:00 am in Rhinebeck, NY officiated by Father Crawford. Entombment follows at St Peter's Cemetery in Poughkeepsie. Arrangements are under the direction of Wm. G. Miller & Son F.H., Inc., 371 Hooker Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603.
