Obituary for Bertha L. Adsmond
Bertha L. Adsmond, 95 a lifelong resident of Poughkeepsie, NY passed away on Monday, June 19, 2017 at home surrounded by her family. Born on September 3, 1921, she was the daughter of the late John N. Lucas and Mary (Sheahan) Lucas. She was predeceased by her husband, Roy T. Adsmond, her eldest son, John M. Adsmond as well as her sisters Ruth (Lucas) and Mary Connors and brothers Lucas J. Lucas and Joseph L. Lucas.
Bertha was a graduate from St. Francis Hospital Nursing School. Her nursing career included working at the Foundling Hospital in NYC, the Pocketbook Factory as an Industrial Nurse and at St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie, NY.
Bertha was a devoted wife and mother. She leaves behind a legacy of love through her surviving children, Barbara (Greg) Tully, Thomas C. Adsmond, Joseph Peter Adsmond, Doumina C. (Greg) Stewart, Roxanne (Dave) Travagline, Johanna (Pete) Villucci, Christa (Bill) Sipperley; nieces Sr. Marla Lucas, Carol Lucas Ngoh, Jane Lucas Wait and nephews John and Michael Lucas. She is also survived by her grandchildren, John and Gabriel Tully, Julianna McCormack and Michael Adsmond, great-grandchildren William and Cooper Tully and Dymin and Dakala Adsmond, Raven & Kiara Cherry and great-great-grandchild Lilliana. Bertha leaves behind many devoted friends, Dr. Adele Elkareh, Rosa Vittone, Rinala W. BuSaba and Patty D'Angelo.
Bertha was a parishioner of Nativity Church where she was active in the St. Elizabeth's Society, Upon its closing, she became a member of St. Mary's Church. Bertha was proud of her Lebanese heritage and was past President and Secretary of the Lebanese American Club in Poughkeepsie, NY. Special thanks go out to her caregivers, Dorothy, Brandie, Chickie and Sabrina for the devotion and love they gave Bertha.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 22, 2017 from 3:00pm to 7:00pm at the William G. Miller & Son Funeral Home, Inc. 371 Hooker Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, June 23, 2017 at 10:00am at St. Mary's Church, 231 Church St. Poughkeepsie, NY 12601. Burial will follow in the family plot at St. Peters Cemetery, Poughkeepsie, NY. Contributions may be made to St. Jude's Childrens's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
