Obituary for William G. Brown
William George Brown died peacefully Sunday, July 23, 2017 at his home in Poughkeepsie, NY at the age of 90. He was born in Waterbury, CT on March 23, 1927 to parents, George and Willie Minnie Brown, who were born in Scotland. Bill served in the Air Force in WWII, then attended UCONN. He had a long career in banking, becoming Vice President and Trust Officer at Empire National Bank in Poughkeepsie in 1969. Bill realized a life-long dream of becoming a pilot, earning his pilot’s license at Dutchess County Airport and was a member of the Grasshopper Flying Club. He was also very active in the Boy Scouts. He and wife, Gerrie, retired to NC where he enjoyed golfing, and served on the Board of Directors and as Property Manager of their community. They returned to Poughkeepsie in 2010 to be near family.
Bill and Gerrie enjoyed 65 years of marriage, and had three children: Terry, Scott and Deborah, all of whom survive him. He is pre-deceased by his brother, John, and infant son, Bruce.
There are no calling hours. Private burial and memorial service will be held in CT at a later date. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in his memory to Hudson Valley Hospice. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wm. G.
