Obituary for John J. Brady

John Joseph Brady, 74, Poughkeepsie N.Y. passed away suddenly on August 14, 2017, while vacationing with his family in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
John was born May 7, 1943 in Bronx NY to William and Marie Miras-Brady. He graduated from Miami-Jackson H.S, Miami Fl. Upon graduation he entered the United States Marine Corps where he served his country proudly during the Cuban Crisis. He was honorably discharged after his four years of service. The discipline and patriotism he learned in the Marines never left him, as his friends and family will attest.
Upon returning to NY, John had the good fortune of being employed by Con Edison in 1967 as a chief lineman and troubleshooter in Eastview and Buchanan. In his free time John had the opportunity to join the Auxillary Police and volunteered as a fireman in Elmsford. After 38 years, John happily retired in 2005. Following his retirement, John enjoyed working part time at McCann Memorial Golf Course, Dutchess Golf Club, and Hudson Plaza Liquors. Throughout his 40+ years in the area, John served his community by volunteering as a little league coach, CYO basketball coach and active member of the Spartan Booster club. During election times, John worked at the polling sites as an election inspector. In his spare time he was an avid golfer, and liked to bowl. However, his true passion was spending time with his family.
On June 8, 1968 he married MaryEllen Reed at St. John the Baptist Church in Yonkers, NY. He is survived at home by his beloved wife of 49 years; his daughter Allison and her husband Mark Heinsman, Hopewell Junction; his son Kevin, Poughkeepsie; and his son John and his wife Lisa, Poughkeepsie; as well as his grandchildren Kyleigh, Connor, Aliyah, Kevin, Owen and baby JT on the way. He also leaves behind brothers William, Or; Howard, Fl; Joseph and his wife Mary Ann, Va; Michael and his wife Elissa, NC; and KJ and his wife Linda, Fl. and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. John was predeceased by his parents and his brother Vincent.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday August 19th from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at William G Miller and Son Funeral Home 371 Hooker Ave Poughkeepsie. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered on Monday at 10 am at the Church of St. Martins de Porres R.C. 118 Cedar Valley Rd. Poughkeepsie.
