Obituary for Ellen M. Devorsetz

Ellen M. Devorsetz, 68, of Poughkeepsie, NY passed away on September 10, 2017 at the Regional Hospice and Palliative Care in Danbury, Ct. She was born in Plainview, NY, on November 22, 1948, the daughter of Elliot Norman & Marion Landberg Marmestein. Ellen received her A.A.S. from Latin American Institute and attended SUNY Albany.
Ellen was employed as a Case manager for New Horizons Resources in Poughkeepsie, NY. She was active in the local community as a nursery school teacher and Sunday School Teacher at both Vassar Temple and Temple Beth-El. She was long time member and past Vice President of the Arlington School District board of Education. Ellen was a special education advocate. She was active in the Autism Community and was President and Board Member of Autism Directory Service which facilitates service for families with children with Autism. Ellen was a gregarious person, who loved to entertain and to be entertained.
Survivors include her mother: Marion Marmestein of Tampa, Fla.; son: Daniel B.(Joy) Devorsetz of Brookfield, CT.; brother: Peter Marmestein of St. Petersburg, Fla. and grandchildren: Emily, Alex and Hayden. There are 2 nephews. Ellen was predeceased by father: Elliott Norman Marmestein and a son: Brett Devorsetz.
Services are Thursday, September 14, 2017, 2 PM at Temple Beth-El, 118 So. Grand Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. Rabbi Daniel Victor will officiate. Burial will be at later date. Memorial Donations may be made to: The Juvenile Diabetes Association and Autism Speaks. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wm. G.
