Obituary for John F. O'Brien

John Francis O'Brien, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on November 14th, 2017.
He was born on August 31st, 1928 in Au Sable Forks NY, to the late Thomas and Winifred (Wallace) O’Brien.
John loved baseball and was an avid player in his youth and even had the honor of being offered a place on the team by the NY Yankees. In later years he umpired games for local leagues and was always a devoted Yankee fan. He was a kind and generous man, always there to lend a hand to others and was liked by anyone who ever met him. He had a wonderful voice and loved to sing and could often be heard whistling a tune as he went about his day.
John is survived by his wife of 60 years, Barbara (Thomas) O’Brien , his daughter Stacia Zimmerman and her husband Clifford of Hyde Park, his daughter Allison O’Brien of Poughkeepsie, his sister Eileen Tedford and her husband Bill of AuSable Forks, NY, his brother Lawrence O’Brien of San Diego, CA, his granddaughters Deanna O’Connor of Brewster, NY, Lauren Nilsen and her husband Stephen of Fuquay Varina , NC, five great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Catherine Dillon and Winifred (Sis) Mousseau, and his brothers Thomas and Harold (Hugh) O’Brien.
Arrangements are under the direction of the William G. Miller & Son F.H., Inc., 371 Hooker Ave, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. Calling hours will be on Sunday, November 19th from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at the Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel of St. Peter's Church, 229 Hudson view Dr., Poughkeepsie NY 12601 on Monday, November 20th 2017 at 10:00a.m., Interment will follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery with Military Honors, Poughkeepsie, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Hudson Valley Hospice.
