Cheri Guisinger Gifford died peacefully at home on November 28, 2017. She was born in Fort Polk, Louisiana on November 18, 1944. She was the daughter of Eugenia and Walter Guisinger of Chillicothe, Ohio. She was raised between Chilicothe and her grandparent’s farm in Adelphi, Ohio, and attended Ohio State University to which she remained a proud lifelong supporter of the Buckeyes.
Trained as a radiology technician, she worked in hospitals in Columbus, Ohio and at Vassar Brothers in Poughkeepsie, New York. She married Preston Gifford Jr. and they had a daughter, Sweet Pea.
She had the privilege of traveling the world with her husband and finally came back to Poughkeepsie where she was an active community volunteer through the Junior League of Poughkeepsie, an active church member and Eucharistic minister at St. Francis Hospital, and an avid bridge player.
Cheri is survived by her husband, Preston Gifford, Jr.; daughter, Elizabeth Drury and husband Chris Drury, and son Julius; step-daughters, Ann Podany and Pamela Hallaren and their children and spouses and 3 nieces of Richmond, VA. Visitation will be Sunday, December 3, 2017, 2-4 PM at the Wm. G. Miller & Son F.H., Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday at 10AM in St. Mary's Church, 231 Church St., Poughkeepsie, NY 12601. Inurnment to follow in Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery Mausoleum.
