Obituary for Joseph H. Briehof Sr.
Joseph H. Briehof Sr., Poughkeepsie NY passed away suddenly on Thursday December 21, 2017. Joseph was born in Poughkeepsie on February 12, 1944. He graduated from Arlington High School in 1962. After working forty-two years for Stop-N-Shop Company he retired in 2010.
Along with spending time with his family one of Joe’s passions was hunting with his father and brothers. Joe was a proud member of the O.H. Booth Hose Fife and Drum Corp’s along with his brothers. Another passion of Joe’s was watching sports. He was a lifelong fan of the NY Mets and NY Giants. He spent many years coaching his sons and grandchildren in baseball a sport he loved very much. Baseball was the sport he loved the most.
Joe is survived by his loving wife and best friend Carol. They were married for fifty-three years. He is also survived by his sons Joseph Briehof Jr. of St. Augustine Florida, John Briehof and Kim Liberati of Poughkeepsie NY, daughter Jennifer and Pete Nylin of Pleasant Valley, NY and son Jarrod and Laura Briehof of Hyde Park, NY. Joe was known as “Grampy” to his surviving grandchildren Brandon & Aidan Nylin, Justin & Jordyn Briehof and Adia Jae Briehof.
Joe has four surviving siblings. They are Helen Crose of Poughkeepsie, NY, Howard (Nancy) Briehof of Hyde Park, NY, William (Janine) Briehof of Dacula, GA and Mathew Briehof of CT and sister in law Kristine Cuchelo. Joe is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.
Joe was predeceased in death by his parents Joseph and Edna Briehof, sisters Vivian Belding & Patricia Harvey and brothers Kenneth Briehof and Richard Briehof. Joe touched many people’s lives and will be greatly missed by all.
Visitation will be Friday, December 29, 2017, 3-7Pm, in the Wm. G. Miller & Son FH, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. Services will be Saturday in the Funeral Home at 10AM and burial will follow in Wappingers Rural Cemetery, Wappingers Falls, NY. In lieu of flowers please send donations to Rocky Strong.
