John Nelson Daley, 77, a life-long resident of Newburgh passed away peacefully Thursday, May 3 at St. Joseph's hospital, Wayne, NJ, after a long illness.
He was born June 29, 1940 in Poughkeepsie, NY, to Newton Everett & Louise J. Dickson Daley. John was a graduate of Newburgh Free Academy, and attended Orange County Community College. In 1963, he enlisted in the US Army and served in the military until he was honorably discharged as a Veteran in 1969.
John was an employee in the family owned Daley's Fuel Oil Company founded in 1941, and eventually retired as head of the business in 2012. He was active in many organizations including the Empire State Petroleum Association, the Board of Trustees for NY State Petroleum Compensation Trust, Hudson Valley Oil Heat Council, and a member of Hudson River Lodge #309 Free & Accepted Masons of New Windsor. He received several honors during his career, and one of those significant honors was being named "Man of the Year Award" when he was president of the Hudson Valley Oil Heat Council.
John was an avid traveler enjoying many trips to Australia, Europe and the West Coast with friends, a car enthusiast, loyal employer, and a kind and generous person to many employees, neighbors and friends. He is survived by a sister Jane Friedland, his brother Bob Daley, and several nieces and nephews.
Family, friends, and others whose lives touched John in a caring manner are invited to a graveside service on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at 11AM with Military Honors in Freedom Plains Cemetery, LaGrangeville, NY.
